FOR INVITED ANDROID TESTERS
Install once. Set up together.
Reinventing allowance for the digital age.
Keep the parent's EarnNet password on the parent's device. Use a pairing code to connect the child's phone.
1. Install or update EarnNet
- Request Android access using the Google account signed into Google Play on the phone. Wait for confirmation that the account has been added. If the parent and child use different Google accounts, request access for each Android device's account.
- On the Android phone, open the testing link below using that same Google account. Choose to join the test if prompted.
- Follow Google's link to Google Play and tap Install or Update. Then open EarnNet.
You do not need Expo Go, a laptop, or a development QR code. Google Play handles installation and updates.
2. On the parent's phone
- Open EarnNet and sign in to your existing parent account, or choose Create parent account.
- Add a child profile if needed. Open Child Profiles → Edit Child for that child and create a pairing code.
- Have the child's phone ready for the next step. If the code expires, create another one.
An iPhone parent can manage an Android child. The same family account keeps chores and earned minutes together across devices.
3. Pair the child's phone
- Open EarnNet on the child's Android phone and choose Child device → Enter pairing code.
- Enter the pairing code from the parent's phone and tap Continue.
- Check that the correct child's profile appears. Do not enter the parent's password on this phone.
4. Set up Android app limits together
App limits are a beta feature for hands-on testing. If you do not see the controls below, check Google Play for an update and contact Leah to confirm your test version. Do not rely on blocking until you have checked it on your child's phone.
- On the child's phone, open EarnNet's Screen Time Controls and tap Set up Android app blocking.
- Read EarnNet's Accessibility explanation. If you agree, tap Agree and continue. In Android Accessibility settings, find EarnNet app limits, turn it on, and confirm the Android prompt. The category may be called Downloaded apps or Installed services, depending on the phone.
- Return to EarnNet and tap Refresh status. Permission should say Authorized.
- On the parent's phone, open Family devices → Approve an app-limit change for this child.
- The parent enters that separate approval code on the child's phone, taps Approve and choose apps, selects one downloaded game or other nonessential app for the first test, and saves. Codes expire after five minutes and work once.
Parent phones do not need Accessibility enabled just to manage the family. On a child phone, EarnNet uses Accessibility to identify the open app, count time in selected apps, and return to Home when a selected app is blocked. It does not read screen text, messages, passwords, or typed input. App selection and usage timing stay on that phone; protection status and remaining minutes are shared with the family.
This version limits selected downloaded apps. It does not block individual websites, preinstalled system apps, or Android Settings. Turning off the Accessibility service or uninstalling EarnNet stops blocking.
5. Try a short screen-time session
- Before starting a session, open the selected game. EarnNet should return the phone to Home.
- Complete a chore and approve it on the parent's device, or give the child a small test balance. Start a short earned-time session from the child's screen-time wallet. The selected game should open during that session.
- Pause the session and try the game again. It should be blocked. Resume, use the selected game until the time runs out, and confirm it is blocked again.
- Restart the child's phone and check protection again. A restarted session should be paused until the child resumes the remaining time.
- Put the parent and child on different internet connections, such as home Wi-Fi and mobile data. Check that a newly approved chore and its reward reach the child's app.
Tell Leah the phone model, Android version, and which step worked or failed. Please avoid sending passwords, approval codes, pairing codes, or screenshots with children's private information.
Need a hand?
Google says the app is unavailable
Check the Google account on the testing page and in Google Play. It must match the address that was approved for testing. If you just received access, give Google time to update and reopen the testing link.
I see a development screen or a QR-code request
You may have an older development app installed. Use the Google Play testing link above. If Play cannot update it because of a signing conflict, contact Leah before removing anything; reinstalling can require pairing the child's phone and selecting limited apps again.
Permission is on, but the selected app still opens
Return to EarnNet and refresh the status. Check that the app is selected and that no earned-time session is running. Phone-specific battery settings, split-screen, and picture-in-picture can affect this beta. Report the behavior to Leah and treat protection as unverified until it works on your phone.
Do our phones need to use the same Wi-Fi?
No. Google Play builds work without Leah's computer. Both phones need internet access for sign-in, pairing, and new family updates. EarnNet does not switch the phone's Wi-Fi on or off.
